LESSON 01: MODAL IN PASSIVE VOICE
MODAL + BE + PAST PARTICIPLE
| ACTIVE | PASSIVE |
| Will/ won’t + V.bare
Ex: Sharon will invite Tom to the party. |
Will/ won’t (will not) + be + V3
Ex: Tom will be invited to the party by Sharon. |
| Can/ can’t + V.bare
Ex: Mai can foretell the future. |
Can/ can’t (cannot) + be+ V3
Ex: The future can be foretold by Mai. |
| May/may not – might/might not + V.bare
Ex: That company may offer Katya a new contract. |
May/may not – might/might not + be +V3
Ex: Katya may be offered a new contract by that company. |
| Should/ shouldn’t + V.bare
Ex: Students should memorize English verbs. |
Should/ shouldn’t + be + V3
Ex: English verbs should be memorized (by students). |
| Ought to + V.bare
Ex: Students ought to learn English verbs. |
Ought to + be + V3
Ex: Englidh verbs ought to be learned (by students). |
| Had better/ had better not + V.bare
Ex: Students had better practice English everyday. |
Had better/ had better not + be + V3
Ex: English had better be practiced everyday (by students). |
| Must/ must not + V.bare
Ex: Tourists must apply for a passport to travel. |
Must/ must not + be + V3
Ex: A passport must be applied for to travel by tourists. |
| Has to/ doesn’t have to – have to/ don’t have to + V.bare
Ex: She has to practice English every day. Maria doesn’t have to clean her bedroom everyday. |
Has to/ doesn’t have to – have to/ don’t have to + be +V3
Ex: English has to be practiced everyday. Ex: Her bedroom doesn’t have to be cleaned everyday. |
